Job Title: Compliance Specialist
Location: Main (3675 S 900 E, Millcreek, UT 84106)
Status: Full-Time (40 hours a week, one Saturday a month required)
Reports to: Director of Risk Management
Position Purpose
Responsible for ensuring that Granite Credit Union consistently meets all applicable federal and state regulations, internal policies, and professional standards. This role is responsible for managing compliance monitoring programs, administering compliance software, coordinating employee training, maintaining up-to-date regulatory procedures, and providing critical backup support across compliance and risk management functions. This role acts as a key resource within the organization to identify, communicate, and mitigate compliance risks while supporting operational integrity and promoting a culture of regulatory adherence.
Essential Duties, Skills & Abilities

- Analyzes the impact of any new laws and regulations, or amendments to existing regulations, on current operations and new products and services. Clearly communicates such impact to the department head and executives as needed.
- Assists Compliance Officer with the review of all company forms, disclosures, member publications, advertisements, and the website to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Manage Verafin compliance software, including uploading 314(a) FinCEN requests bi-weekly, administering user access, performing weekly alert reviews, reconciling CTRs with core systems (e.g., Flex), and monitoring for suspicious activity such as structuring and unusual cash transactions.
- Serve as a resource to staff and management by providing guidance on regulatory issues, assisting with the interpretation and implementation of laws and regulations, supporting the development of compliance policies and review procedures, and contributing to employee training on related topics.
- Assists with the implementation of a comprehensive compliance program to ensure conformity with federal and state laws and help coordinate compliance audits and organization examinations.
- Directs the monitoring of compliance-related procedures and checks to ensure procedures are being followed and forms are being used properly. Supports making the information necessary to complete external compliance examinations available.
- Coordinate and manage monthly compliance training, including regulatory topics such as Reg CC and BSA/AML. Distribute quizzes, track completions, send follow-up reminders, and maintain training records.
- Provide ongoing training support, including annual branch visits, facilitation of Branch Assistant in Training (BAIT) sessions, and development or revision of training materials in response to regulatory or procedural changes.
- Maintain and update regulatory procedures and documentation, including interdepartmental checklists, Navigator content, and compliance-related forms. Coordinate updates with internal teams and third-party vendors (e.g., TruStage) to ensure accuracy and alignment with current regulations.
- May perform the review of system programming/software changes and provide input as to the effect the change has on compliance.
- Maintains a schedule for a cursory examination of all compliance requisites and looks for evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, timeliness of response to compliance issue or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations, and management policies or procedures.
- Perform daily Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) monitoring, including filing CTRs and SARs as required. Manage and review alerts generated by BSA/AML compliance software, ensuring effective utilization of significant alerts by attending vendor webinars and trainings.
- Manages the vendor management program, making sure program is compliant with current regulations.
- Maintains quarterly review of HMDA information and analyzes data for fair lending red flags.
- Manages the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Discovery Response Plan.
- Manages the Business Impact Analysis (BIA).
- Promotes all aspects of any department project and allocates financial and talent resources appropriately.
- Provide backup support across compliance and risk management functions, assisting the Compliance Officer as needed. Support fraud-related tasks such as processing garnishments, subpoenas, and returned checks, and assist with quality control reviews including mortgage and business loan prefunding and account verification audits.
- Assists in the ordering and review of appraisals required for Mortgage and Business Lending.
- Attends compliance schools and information sessions to become knowledgeable and skilled in compliance requirements. Reports requirements to management and may train departmental heads in compliance processes, requirements, and controls.
- Monitor the Risk Management internal chat and serve as a liaison between departments, ensuring timely responses to compliance inquiries and effective communication of upcoming regulatory changes and their implementation.
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter with strong organizing and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently with multiple projects and timelines.
- All other duties as a primary or back up contact as assigned in the Risk Management Department.
- Ensure that all information and transactions regarding credit union members are kept confidential.
- Maintain the security of the work area and keep it organized and neat in appearance.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, management staff, board members, and outside vendors.
- Attend meetings as required.

- Basic computer operating skills such as email, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Experience
One to three years of experience in the financial industry. Compliance experience or formal training is preferred.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
