Job Title: Consumer Loan Underwriter
Location: Main Office (Milcreek)
Status: Full-Time (40 hours a week, some Saturdays required)
Reports to: Consumer Loan Department Manager
Position Purpose
Responsible for reviewing and processing applications for all consumer loan products through the Indirect and Direct Lending channels. Evaluates loan applications and approves those that meet initial lending criteria and are within approved lending limits. Presents loan requests above lending limit for approval as per loan policy. Ensure members and prospective members are promptly and professionally served. Analyzes loan application packet for opportunities to provide applicants with additional products and services.
Essential Duties, Skills & Abilities
- Exhibit outstanding member services skills by applying Granite Credit Union Service Standards and Core Values.
- Evaluates loan applications, credit criteria and computes debt ratios. Verifies employment, income, and determines value of collateral. Approves loans within limits of authority and notifies submitting employees of loan decisions. Requests additional information if required.
- Ensure each loan is promptly and properly prepared, documented, processed and approved.
- Calculates terms, finance charges, and insurance on loans for proper disclosure on promissory notes.
- Ensures lending operations are conducted in accordance with established Company policies and are legally compliant. Ensure loan requests are properly documented.
- Actively and professionally cross-sells Credit Union products and services. This includes the mining of credit report data to discover potential product offerings
- Responsible for communicating loan decisions to the Lender(s) and/or Loan Processor(s) including the ability to discuss loans denials, loan alternatives and rate computation in a clear, concise and courteous manner.
- Reviews, counsel, and assists in approving, countering or declining loans for other departmental staff, as necessary.
- Ensure that all information and transactions regarding credit union members are kept confidential. Maintain the security of the work area and keep it organized and neat in appearance.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, management staff, board members, and outside vendors.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Promote a professional appearance and attitude.
- Basic computer operating skills such as email, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
2-3 years of consumer lending experience (preferred).
Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations.
Education
A high school degree or GED is required
