About being our Civil Construction Observer

KPG Psomas seeks a Civil Construction Observer to join our team as a flexible team member performing daily site observations, documenting progress, and ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications. Our construction services group is currently involved in several municipal projects, and our ideal candidate will bring their experience along with a collaborative spirit, to begin productively working on both current and upcoming projects. KPG Psomas projects range from small utility/sidewalk projects to large multi-year utility and transportation projects. Project assignments and level of responsible are assigned based on the skill set and experience level of the Construction Observer.


This position is primarily located on North-End projects (Tukwila/Burien and north), with variable working hours and schedule depending on the project assignment.


Responsibility Highlights for our Civil Construction Observer

  • Daily observation and documentation of civil infrastructure projects including roads, water main, storm, and sewer work, etc.
  • Ensuring conformance with contract documents including but not limited to plans and specifications, soils reports, quality assurance requirements, etc.
  • Maintaining daily reports, measurements, calculations, and computation of quantities; Working with project team to generate Field Note Records for progress payments.
  • Coordinate field material sampling and testing. Inform team of possible changed conditions and track/oversee force account work.

Minimum Qualifications to be our Civil Construction Observer

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of construction observation experience or relevant construction experience
  • Responsible driving record with no major or repeated violations (daily inspection includes travel to various job sites)
  • Willingness/ability to occasionally work weekends, night work, and/or long hours in adverse weather conditions as project dictates
  • Able to calculate areas, volumes, and other basic field measurement quantities
  • Basic proficiency with software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and more

Preferred Qualifications for our Civil Construction Observer

  • 5+ years of construction observation experience or relevant construction experience
  • 10+ years to be hired as a Senior Construction Observer
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications and WSDOT Standard Plans
  • Dependable and detail oriented; able to handle & prioritize multiple project functions
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and residents
