Lead Bike Technician

Department: Mountain Outfitters

Reports To: Mountain Outfitters Manager

Rate of Pay: $18–$20 per hour DOE

Shifts: 4 days a week: 9am – 6pm

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Bike Technician to join our resort shop team. This role is responsible for performing high-quality repairs, maintaining a large rental fleet, and supporting daily rental operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, guest-focused resort environment.

This position also includes cross-training in retail sales and guest service to ensure seamless support across all shop operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Bike Repair & Service

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of bicycle issues (mountain, road, e-bike preferred)
  • Perform tune-ups, brake and drivetrain adjustments, wheel truing, suspension setup, and component installs
  • Maintain high standards of safety and workmanship
  • Communicate repair timelines and recommendations clearly with guests

Rental Fleet Maintenance

  • Perform daily safety checks and preventative maintenance on rental fleet
  • Complete routine inspections and document service logs
  • Identify and prioritize repairs to keep fleet operational and guest-ready
  • Assist with seasonal builds, teardown, and inventory management

Rental Operations

  • Fit guests for rental bikes and equipment
  • Provide safety briefings and basic trail orientation
  • Manage rental check-in/check-out procedures
  • Ensure a positive and professional guest experience

Retail Support (Cross-Trained)

  • Assist guests with bike, accessories, and apparel purchases
  • Provide product knowledge and recommendations
  • Maintain clean, organized sales floor and service areas
  • Support merchandising and inventory tasks as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional bike mechanic experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of modern drivetrains, hydraulic brakes, tubeless systems, and suspension
  • Experience maintaining rental fleets is a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently during peak resort traffic
  • Excellent communication and guest service skills
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Weekend and holiday availability required
  • The employee is regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
