CMT Technical Services is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Surveying Technician to support our land surveying and construction materials testing operations. The Surveying Technician will assist in collecting and recording field data, setting up and operating surveying instruments, and supporting accurate site layouts for a variety of construction and infrastructure projects.

Compensation: Starting hourly rate is $22 or more (depending on experience)
Location: Sandy, UT
FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Hours may vary


What you'll be doing:

  • Assist with land and construction surveys under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief or Project Surveyor
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors
  • Set up control points, stake boundaries, and layout construction elements based on project plans
  • Record measurements and observations accurately and legibly
  • Support field data collection for topographic, boundary, and construction surveys
  • Follow safety procedures and report any hazards or incidents
  • Communicate effectively with survey team members and project staff

What you have:

  • High school diploma or GED required, coursework in surveying, construction, or engineering a plus
  • Previous field experience in surveying or construction is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods

What will make you stand out:

  • Certification as a Certified Survey Technician (CST) through NSPS
  • Experience with industry-standard survey equipment
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
  • Part 107 drone license
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work independently in the field
