The pay range for this position depends on experience and skills but starts at anywhere from $18-$22/hr. SUMMARY:

Responsible for selecting and ripping to width, raw hardwood lumber and producing running trim on various molders. Preferred experience in operating and maintaining some or all of the following machines:

  • Various Molders
  • Planers
  • Jointers
  • Profile Grinders
  • Rip Saw
  • Other hardwood machining equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Produce hardwood lumber parts from drawings and cutlists.
  • Read molding specifications from drawings and cutlists.
  • Set up knives in molder heads and sharpening on a profile grinder.
  • Recognize and work with a wide variety of wood species.
  • Should be able to identify the basic lumber cuts i.e. plain sawn, quarter sawn, and rift sawn.
  • Should be comfortable working in a team environment and flexing into various roles as needed to support production needs and the team.
  • Be committed to lean manufacturing practices and principles and the Fetzer Improvement System. (Standard Work, 5S, Kanban, Continuous Improvement, Waste reduction, S.T.E.P.S., First in /First out, Flow vs. Batch, etc.)
  • Maintain and monitor daily accuracy and on-time performance of inventory transactions (goods received, adjustments, goods issued).
  • Volunteer for, accept and complete assignments on time. Be self-motivated and drive improvements.
  • Give and receive feedback professionally. Have good positive attitude. Be easy to approach and develop trust.
  • Rarely miss work unless absence is scheduled and covered.
  • Commit to personal development through study and practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of 2 years related experience preferred. Must be 18 years of age.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee sometimes works near moving mechanical parts and often uses power equipment such as orbital sanders, table saws and routers.

There is sawdust in every area of production. Some areas of production can be very loud.

While temperature control is attempted, there can be great variations in temperature.

Will generally work normal scheduled hours. May be called upon to work overtime or outside of normal scheduled work hours on occasion to support production

 

Physical Demands:

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include - Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend, twist, kneel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and stoop. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
