Job Title: Rental Specialist Level II

Department: Sundance Mountain Outfitters

Reports To: SMO Manager

Rate of Pay: $11.50-$12.00/ hour

Shift: 8am 6pm & 4pm 10 pm, must be available weekends and holidays


Helps guide the Sundance Mountain Outfitters guest rental experience through shop expertise, efficient and precise communication on all rental gear, equipment and adjustments, while demonstrating enthusiasm for mountain recreation and knowledge of resort.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Accurately size and fit rental guests to appropriate equipment while maintaining professionalism.

Have detailed knowledge of differences in levels and types of equipment.

Ensure rental documents are signed and filled out completely 100% of the time.

Use guest given information to accurately determine appropriate DIN setting for releasable bindings per manufacturer recommendations 100% of the time.

Detailed understanding of point of sale operations and cash handling.

Perform multiple transactions to include gift cards, vouchers, inter-department, returns, refunds & end of shift closing procedures.

Demonstrate a friendly, out-going personality and have a passion for creating significant experiences for guests.

Assist guest in determining needs for repairs and tunes and speak to needed repairs and help guide guest in their decision for best course of action.

Commit and adhere to resort & department service standards.

Exhibit knowledge and understanding of retail products and procedures to include, looking up SKU.

Effectively cross sell within SMO to include upgrade in rentals and cross selling retail. Cross sell other Sundance departments and activities.

Balance helping guests with projects given by manager to maintain shop efficiency.

Handle working in a high-paced atmosphere while offering exceptional customer service, positivity, efficiency and accuracy.

Learn current retail products sold in rental shop in order to explain and sell to guests.

Take initiative to work with other departments, resolve concerns or accommodate requests.

Perform basic back shop duties to include waxing, edge-work, basic tunes & stone tunes.

Train Rental Specialist Level 1 staff in basic functions and responsibilities of their duties.

Operate ASTM ski testing device to perform random in-season and pre-season testing of binding systems.

Have a solid understanding of SMO's Service Standard goals and live them out loud consistently.

Uphold all Forbes service standards with every guest interaction.

Share Sundance's story of land preservation and environmental commitment.


Embrace and promote all facets of the Sundance Guiding Principles: vision, mission, service standards, and values.

Exhibit job and product knowledge to accurately support and promote all Sundance departments, amenities and programming ventures.

No supervisory responsibilities.


Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position: minimizing waste, recycling, energy conservation, purchase and use of sustainable products, education on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats.

In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:

All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

Required to wear nametags at all times while in guest service area.

Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Blue jeans are permitted.

Men's shirts must be tucked in when possible, related to the type of work, lifting bikes, etc.

Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.

Bare midriffs are prohibited.

Proper footwear for your department is required.

Sandals and flip flops are prohibited in all areas.

Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (ie: Mtn. Ops.)

If an approved t-shirt is worn, it must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

Sundance logo or a no logo baseball cap is permitted: beanies are okay.

Shorts are appropriate and must be mid-thigh or longer during the summer month and must be approved by manager.

High School diploma, or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have worked 2 years as a Rental Specialist level 1 or have previous experience equivalent to 2 years' experience in a rental setting.


Must have basic computer & word processing skills to include internet use.


Binding manufacturer certifications. To be obtained during training.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine repots and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Basic mathematical skills required to include addition, determining sales tax & discounts and convert standard and metric units of weight.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
