PART TIME - OPERATIONS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Department: Community and Economic Development

Division: Union Station

Pay:$16.50 - $20.00 per hour/depending on experience. Up to 29 hours per week. Shifts will vary depending on operational needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional short notice coverage.


JOB SUMMARY

Ogden Union Station is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented PT Operations Support worker to support daily janitorial and light facility operations, with a focus on museum spaces and public areas. This position plays a key role in ensuring museums and venue remain clean, safe, and welcoming for guests, staff, and volunteers. The role reports directly to the Union Station Operations Administrator and provides support for the care of museum spaces, event/public spaces, and building facility needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform daily custodial and janitorial duties throughout museums, galleries, restrooms, workspaces, and public areas, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and care.
  • Ensure museum floors, fixtures, and exhibit spaces are dust free and visitor ready on a daily basis.
  • Support daily opening/closing procedures.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of building and report repair needs to the Facilities team by submitting and tracking appropriate work orders; Facilities staff will manage all necessary repairs. Support preventative care and day to day upkeep of the building and grounds.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot janitorial equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers, extractors) and ensure regular upkeep and storage.
  • Conduct regular security sweeps of museum and public areas, monitor for safety issues, hazards, or unauthorized access and report unusual activity to the Union Station Operations Administrator or Cultural Services Division Director.
  • Identify and report building facility issues to the Union Station Operations Administrator.
  • Assist with exterior groundskeeping including light landscaping, trash removal, entryway sweeping, and seasonal snow/ice management.
  • Support special cleaning needs in exhibit areas with attention to preservation friendly techniques.
  • Assist with event setup and takedown including furniture arrangement, equipment staging, and cleanup.
  • Serve as an onsite presence during evening or weekend programs, helping ensure smooth operations and building readiness.
  • Assist vendors and contractors onsite to ensure safe and efficient access to building systems.
  • Accurately document daily inspections and shift reports.
  • Follow all safety and risk management procedures in compliance with Ogden City policies.
  • Performs all other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience in janitorial work, groundskeeping, building care
  • Familiarity with custodial equipment, basic tools, and building systems (e.g., boiler, HVAC, elevators) preferred to assist in identifying and promptly reporting potential issues to the Facilities team for inspection and repair.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in maintaining cleanliness and building upkeep.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work well with the public.
  • Able to remain calm and professional during emergencies or unexpected situations such as fire alarms, unauthorized building access, or incidents in high-traffic public areas and promptly report facility-related emergencies to the Facilities team.
  • Minimum Age Requirement must be at least 18 years of age.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors, which may expose the employee to moderate to very loud noises, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibrations.
  • Work includes sitting, walking, and standing. Must be able to lift up to 50 -75pounds.
  • Must possess the visual ability to see clearly at close (less than 20 inches) and far (20 feet or more) distances, identify and distinguish colors, observe an area that can be seen up and down or the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include the following Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, lifting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and smelling and operating assigned equipment.

DRIVER LICENSE REPORT (MVR)

Applicants must have a valid Utah Driver License. A driver license report (MVR) will be obtained by the Human Resources Division.
