Department: Fire Department

Division: Medical Operations

Pay: GRADE 125: $47,915.30 - $69,477.18 Annually (23.04 - 33.40 Hourly Rate).

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits & URS Fire Department


PREREQUISITS REQUIRED UPON HIRE

  • National Registry/Utah Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or National Registry Paramedic/Utah Paramedic.
  • Education Requirement: High school diploma or GED

PREFERENCE FOR THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  • Field emergency medical experience
  • Advanced EMS certifications (AEMT/Paramedic)
  • Degree related to Emergency Medical Services

POSITION SUMMARY

Ogden Fire Department is looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in joining our Team. Applicants who are interested in pursuing a rewarding career as a full-time AEMT/EMT - Transport Ambulance Technician should be dedicated, motivated, and ready to work hard to provide a service to our community and our citizens. The primary function of this position is the interfacility transportation of patients to and from different care facilities.


Under general supervision, performs emergency medical and trauma care to patients. Conform to all protocols and guidelines established by the department and city. Assesses patients and when appropriate, stabilize patients so that they may be safely transported to and from the hospital, in accordance with protocols and guidelines established by the department and physician medical directors. This position is specific to the department operating an inter facility transfer ambulance, with some responsibilities outside of transfers.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must submit a copy of their high school diploma or GED with date of completion before an appointment.

NIMS REQUIRED TRAINING

  • Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 within three months of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THE AEMT/EMT - TRANSPORT AMBLUANCE TECHNICIAN

  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
  • Employees are required to work as a team and consistently interact with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Employees are required to communicate in-person with the public.
  • Respond to emergency medical incidents if needed, operate emergency medical equipment, analyze patient needs and administer basic life support, apply techniques for the control of airway, breathing, circulation, spinal immobilization, shock, patient packaging, and ambulance transport including inter-facility transfers.
  • Participate in EMS related training to comply with National, State and industry standards.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Clean apparatus and equipment at fire stations; perform general custodial duties as required.
  • Ensure that the vehicle and equipment are ready to use at the beginning of the shift and after every call. This includes cleaning and disinfecting of the interior and exterior of the vehicle and equipment. Inspecting, restocking, and completing daily checklists of the vehicle and equipment, and performing routine maintenance.
  • Maintains all training records for recertification purposes in accordance with NREMT.
  • Provide public information and instruction on medical incidents, CPR, and career opportunities.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the City.
  • Maintain good knowledge of City layout.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES FOR ENTRY LEVEL AEMT/PARAMEDIC

  • Emergency medical, CPR and other medical assistance techniques.
  • Operation of ambulances.
  • Retain presence of mind in emergency situations, analyze emergency situations and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Drive fire department ambulance in an approved safe manner.
  • Operate and maintain radio/communication equipment.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Position requires heavy lifting and physical maneuvering, demonstrate, and maintain physical abilities. Position requires running, walking, crouching, or crawling during emergency operations, climbing stairs; performing lifesaving and rescue procedures, moving equipment and injured/deceased persons, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, with the ability to resolve conflict in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others, evaluating various options and alternatives and choosing an appropriate and reasonable course of action.
  • Ability to comply with all city policies and regulations, including safety and risk management standards.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Read, understand, and act in accordance with City and departmental policies, rules, and instructions. Understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude as required in the operation of medical equipment.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, operating assigned equipment and vehicles when required by the position.
  • As needed, work additional hours outside of the normal and planned scheduled workdays.
