Job Title: Accountant

Location: Main Branch (3675 S 900 E, Millcreek, UT 84106)

Status: Full-Time (40 hours a week)

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

 

Position Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and finance duties in alignment with Credit Union policies and procedures. This role primarily focuses on administering the accounts payable process, maintaining the general ledger, reconciling financial accounts, and preparing financial reports. The Accountant ensures the accuracy of all accounting records, supports departmental operations, and promotes the Credit Union's Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

 

Essential Duties, Skills & Abilities

  • Exhibit outstanding member services skills by applying Granite Credit Union Service Standards and Core Values.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of the general ledger and internal accounts, ensuring discrepancies are addressed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records for ACH direct deposits, pre-arranged payments, federal recurring files, and corporate tax payments.
  • Reconcile and review the Credit Union's daily cash letters. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Post daily payments, including processing Alacriti payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reconcile daily system proofs, promptly addressing any out-of-balance conditions and communicating necessary corrections with appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly and year-end reports for purchased loan servicers, ensuring the correct application of interest rates, payoffs, and adjustments.
  • Provide month-end and quarter-end financial reports as assigned, ensuring completeness and compliance.
  • Prepares FRB cash orders from branch requests, orders cash from FRB and notifies armored courier of amounts and delivery location(s)s. Ensures cash is ordered to meet delivery deadlines. Maintains reserve balances with the armored courier and reconciles coin and currency vaults held at the courier.
  • Balance ATM transactions
  • Files 945 tax return. Reviews any IRS correspondence relating to 941 or 945 returns. Addresses any differences the IRS finds between the returns and the electronic files containing w-2s, 1099-R, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with unclaimed property regulations by filing reports and remitting funds to the state. Handle customer inquiries related to unclaimed property.
  • Maintains investment system including preparation of monthly reconciliations and entries and monthly and quarterly roll forwards. Maintains complete documentation for each investment.
  • Assist in handling member escrow payments; deposits, payments of property taxes and insurance as well as recalculations of escrow amounts
  • Prepare month-end accounting entries
  • Prepare and maintain other reports, including uploading of files etc.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, management staff, board members, and outside vendors.
  • Promote a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

 

Required Experience & Skills

Familiarity with accounting principles, ACH regulations, and financial reporting practices.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Exhibits strong accuracy and organizational skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Education

A college degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
