Description

Position Overview

Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a Reliability Engineer to help ensure the long-term performance, durability, and safety of our autonomous systems and components. This role focuses on developing and executing reliability strategies across mechanical, electrical, and software systems used in real-world autonomous operations.

Reliability Engineers at ASI work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to identify potential failure modes, perform failure analysis, and implement design improvements that enhance system robustness and lifecycle performance. This role plays a critical part in validating system durability through testing, data analysis, and reliability modeling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute reliability testing plans for autonomous systems and components, including mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.

  • Conduct reliability analyses such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis (RCA), and fault tree analysis to identify potential failure risks.

  • Design and perform accelerated life testing, environmental testing, and stress testing to simulate real-world operating conditions.

  • Analyze test data to identify reliability trends and recommend design improvements to enhance product durability and performance.

  • Collaborate with product development teams to incorporate Design for Reliability (DFR) principles early in the system development lifecycle.

  • Establish and monitor reliability metrics to evaluate system performance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Support development of predictive maintenance strategies and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) approaches for deployed systems.

  • Lead or contribute to failure investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.

  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure the quality and reliability of components used in ASI systems.

  • Document testing methodologies, reliability analyses, and results to support engineering and product development decisions.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by incorporating lessons learned into future product designs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience in reliability engineering, system testing, failure analysis, or related engineering roles.

  • Understanding of reliability engineering concepts such as FMEA, reliability modeling, and failure analysis methodologies.

  • Experience with reliability testing techniques including accelerated life testing (ALT), HALT/HASS, or environmental stress testing.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.

  • Experience using data analysis or statistical tools such as MATLAB, Python, R, or similar tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical findings clearly.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with complex electromechanical or autonomous systems.

  • Familiarity with reliability modeling, Weibull analysis, or reliability prediction tools.

  • Knowledge of Design for Reliability (DFR) and reliability growth methodologies.

  • Experience with reliability-focused software tools such as ReliaSoft, Reliability Workbench, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with quality and reliability standards such as ISO 9001, IEC 61508, or related industry standards.

  • Experience working with supplier quality and component reliability evaluation.

Leveling Considerations

This role may be filled at different levels depending on candidate experience and demonstrated expertise:

  • Reliability Engineer I: Early-career engineer supporting reliability testing and analysis.

  • Reliability Engineer II: Engineer capable of independently executing reliability analyses and testing programs.

  • Senior Reliability Engineer (III): Leads reliability investigations and drives reliability improvements across systems.

  • Principal Reliability Engineer (IV): Provides technical leadership and defines reliability strategies across product lines.

  • Staff / Distinguished Reliability Engineer (V): Leads enterprise-level reliability initiatives and sets long-term reliability direction.
