JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Perception Development Manager to lead and grow ASI's perception engineering team within the Platform organization. This role will oversee the development, deployment, and validation of perception systems that enable autonomous vehicle platforms to understand and interact with complex real-world environments.
The Perception Development Manager will guide the development of robust perception pipelines using sensors such as LiDAR, radar, and cameras, supporting applications across industries including agriculture, logistics, landscaping, and construction. These systems enable key capabilities such as obstacle detection, tracking, mapping, localization support, object classification, and situational awareness.
This leader will provide managerial oversight and technical leadership to a growing team of perception engineers while ensuring strong collaboration with platform architecture, embedded software, and autonomy teams. The role requires experience building perception systems for embedded robotic platforms and scalable AI/ML cloud infrastructure, as well as familiarity with both traditional computer vision techniques and modern AI/ML-based perception approaches.
The successful candidate will combine deep technical knowledge in robotic perception with strong engineering leadership, driving the delivery of scalable and reliable perception solutions from development through field deployment while mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the Perception engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide managerial oversight and technical leadership for perception system development across ASI's autonomous vehicle platforms.
- Drive the design, development, and deployment of perception pipelines leveraging LiDAR, radar, and camera sensors.
- Collaborating and coordinating work between multiple vehicle teams as well as platform roadmaps
- Oversee development of perception capabilities such as obstacle detection, tracking, mapping, localization support, object classification, and situational awareness.
- Guide engineers in implementing robust perception algorithms for real-world robotic deployment, balancing performance, reliability, and computational constraints.
- Support development and integration of perception systems for embedded robotic platforms.
- Collaborate with cloud and data engineering teams to support AI/ML model training, validation, and deployment using scalable cloud infrastructure.
- Ensure perception solutions integrate effectively with platform architecture, autonomy, navigation, and embedded systems.
- Oversee testing and validation workflows including simulation, data pipelines, and field testing to ensure real-world performance.
- Manage team staffing, project schedules, and resource allocation.
- Lead the perception team in agile/scrum development cycles, including sprint planning and continuous integration.
- Promote strong engineering practices including documentation, code reviews, and modular system design.
- Mentor and develop perception engineers while supporting career growth and technical excellence.
- Stay current with advancements in robotic perception, computer vision, and AI/ML technologies.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science (Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related).
- 2+ years of engineering management experience, including leading technical teams.
- Strong experience developing robotic perception or computer vision systems.
- Familiarity with robotic perception and/or computer vision concepts, including traditional computer vision techniques as well as AI/ML techniques.
- Experience working with LiDAR, radar, and camera sensor data.
- Experience developing perception systems for embedded robotic platforms.
- Familiarity with AI/ML model development and deployment pipelines, including cloud-based infrastructure.
- Strong programming experience with C++, Python, and related robotics or ML frameworks.
- Experience working in or managing teams in agile/scrum environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of professional experience in robotic perception, computer vision, or related autonomy fields.
- Experience leading engineering teams developing perception systems for autonomous or robotic platforms.
- Experience building computer vision pipelines and AI/ML workflows for perception applications.
- Experience working with large-scale perception datasets and model training pipelines.
- Proven track record of delivering perception systems from concept through field deployment.
