Description

At ASI, we are revolutionizing industries with state-of-the-art autonomous robotics solutions. Within the fields of agriculture, construction, landscaping, and logistics, we deliver technologies that enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency. With our core values of Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, Autonomy and Growth guiding everything we do, we're shaping the future of automation in dynamic markets.

The Embedded Software Development Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and administrative leadership of ASI's embedded software engineering team. This role is focused on team health, process discipline, project coordination, and organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate has enough software background to communicate credibly with engineers and understand team context but will lean heavily on the technical expertise of the team itself. You will own the people, the process, and the plan. In addition to people and process management, this role serves as the product owner for embedded software systems, owning backlog prioritization and ensuring the team's roadmap aligns with broader platform objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the direct manager for embedded software engineers, including performance reviews, career development conversations, and day-to-day employee support.
  • Maintain awareness of individual workload distribution and proactively address imbalance or ownership gaps across high-priority work.
  • Foster a team culture consistent with ASI's core values: Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, and Growth.
  • Track team deliverables, milestones, and sprint commitments; surface blockers or risks to program leadership before they become schedule impacts.
  • Support agile ceremonies including sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming as needed, working in coordination with the team's Scrum Master.
  • Ensure the team is following and continuously improving its embedded software development processes, including CI/CD practices, documentation standards, and code review cadence.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, ensuring their continuous development and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Serve as the primary organizational point of contact between the embedded software team and other engineering disciplines (Electronics, GNC, Perception) and program management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of individual contributor experience as an Embedded Engineer, Software Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Robotics Engineer, or other related engineering fields.

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams of engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate cross-functional work, and keep projects on track.

  • Experience with embedded systems programming and software development, including proficiency in C, C++, or similar languages.

  • Experience with Agile or other project management methodologies.

  • Strong project management skills, particularly with complex cross-disciplinary projects.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - comfortable translating between technical and non-technical audiences.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods.

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment continuously.

  • Ability to effectively complete job responsibilities using computer monitors and electronic communication tools.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange information in person, via phone, and through electronic means.

  • Ability to traverse office, lab, and field environments as required.
