Department: Mountain Operations

Reports To: Mountain Maintenance Manager

Rate of Pay: $27 hourly, FTYR

Shift: 7-days a week. Must be available Weekends/Holidays.

FLSA Status: Hourly/Nonexempt FTYR


SUMMARY: The Mountain Maintenance Technician will work closely with the Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead to ensure all aspects of mountain maintenance are being addressed and maintained to Sundance standards. This position will largely be assisting the Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead with mountain vehicle and equipment maintenance but will also play an integral role in the strategic execution of all facets of Mountain Operations including mountain grooming (winter and summer), lift maintenance, and snowmaking.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead with repair, and running of the mountain's snowmobile, snowcat, and mountain vehicle fleet.
  • Provide consistent support to all mountain operations staff to include mountain maintenance, snowmaking, mountain grooming (winter and summer), and lift maintenance.
  • Self-start and work under unsupervised conditions for periods of time.
  • Candidate must meet our insurance requirements for driving vehicles.
  • Technician will set an example on how to use and care for the equipment and assist Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead with holding teams accountable when preventable damage is done to vehicle or equipment.
  • Assist with training and certification of all mountain staff on snowmobile safety.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Mountain service vehicles year-round.
  • Assist with proper inventory and selection of necessary tools and parts to ensure fast repairs.
  • Take appropriate care of all mountain equipment and ensure equipment is in good running order.
  • Immediately report damage or issues with equipment so it can be serviced and repaired.
  • Assist Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead with coordinating with Fleet Service Manager when outside repairs are needed.
  • Assist with all aspects of the snow making program where needed including maintenance, production, and assisting with snowmaking.
  • Ensure snowmaking pumps and guns are operated safely and in accordance with all applicable laws.
  • Operate a snowcat without supervision and cover winter grooming shifts when necessary.
  • Possess a basic understanding and knowledge of winter grooming techniques.
  • Familiar with Sundance slopes to ensure quality grooming product.
  • Use good judgement when grooming to ensure personal safety and safety of equipment.
  • Aware of snow safety issues and coordinate with Ski Patrol.
  • Work with all summer grooming equipment including chainsaws and power tools.
  • Be familiar with lift maintenance and operations to assist with seasonal maintenance of lifts.
  • Have lift maintenance experience sufficient to be able to cover lift maintenance shifts during operations.
  • Have a solid understanding of risk management and make decisions based on this knowledge.
  • Support a strong safety culture amongst the team, including the use of PPE.
  • Be aware of surroundings and report discovered issues or potential problems immediately so that they can be addressed regardless of whether they are specific to your assigned duties.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of potentially hazardous materials in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Maintain a healthy watershed and wildlife habitat.
  • Be a good steward of the mountain.
  • Must be able to handle all types of outdoor weather conditions.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Knowledge of repair procedures for snowmobiles, snowcats and vehicles is required. Previous experience in working with and operating these vehicles is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of snowmaking system and equipment required. Knowledge and understanding of basic lift maintenance is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move between 50 and 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Employee must be able to tolerate extremes in temperature and weather.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level working around snow guns is usually loud. Employee will be exposed to extreme cold for extended periods of time.
