About being our Right of Way Agent

As our Right of Way Agent, you will support public works and infrastructure projects throughout California. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely, lawful, and fair property acquisitions that support transportation, utilities, and infrastructure development.

Responsibility Highlights for our Right of Way Agent

  • Coordinate and manage all phases of ROW acquisition for public infrastructure projects.
  • Interpret right-of-way plans and legal descriptions, work with surveyors, engineers, appraisers, and attorneys.
  • Communicate with property owners, negotiate acquisitions, and prepare settlement documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act and California Government Code Section 7260 et seq.
  • Oversee or assist with title research, appraisal coordination, and escrow/closing processes.
  • Support condemnation proceedings when necessary, in partnership with legal counsel.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare documentation for agency audit and legal compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, appraisers, attorneys, and public agency representatives.

Minimum Qualifications to be our Right of Way Agent

  • 3 -10 years of direct right-of-way experience, preferably in public infrastructure or capital improvement projects.
  • Active California Department of Real Estate Salesperson License (required).
  • Familiarity with Caltrans Right of Way Manual, local public agency procedures, and eminent domain processes.
  • Experience working on federally funded public projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of real estate laws, title and escrow, and relocation assistance requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; GIS/ROW software experience is needed.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and be able to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications for our Right of Way Agent

  • Active membership or certification with IRWA (International Right of Way Association).
  • Background in appraisal review or support.
  • California Licensed Notary
