CMT Technical Services is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to serve in a leadership role within our Geotechnical Engineering Division in Utah. This position is responsible for managing geotechnical projects, providing technical leadership to engineering and field staff, and supporting business development initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive geotechnical engineering experience, strong client relationships, and the ability to guide teams through complex geotechnical investigations and design projects while ensuring high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.
Develop proposals and determine cost estimates and schedules for geotechnical investigations and engineering services
Plan and oversee geotechnical exploration programs, including drilling, sampling, and field investigations
Provide direction and technical leadership to field inspectors, laboratory staff, and engineering personnel
Analyze geotechnical data and perform engineering calculations related to soil mechanics and foundation design
Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, recommendations, and technical documentation
Interact with clients, contractors, and internal team members to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope
Maintain and expand existing client relationships while developing new business opportunities
Support marketing and business development efforts, including proposal preparation and networking activities
Evaluate team performance and identify training and development needs for technical staff
Ensure projects meet CMT quality standards, safety policies, and applicable codes and regulations
Support occasional administrative or operational tasks as needed within the engineering team
Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
Minimum 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including work within the State of Utah
Strong understanding of soil mechanics, geotechnical analysis, and foundation engineering
Experience overseeing geotechnical investigations, field testing, and engineering design recommendations
Knowledge of construction materials testing and special inspection services
Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Utah
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in team environments and leadership roles
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Established client relationships and revenue-generating experience in geotechnical engineering and materials testing services
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex construction projects
Strong business development background with the ability to expand service offerings and grow market share
Experience working on large infrastructure, commercial, or transportation projects
Ability to mentor junior engineers and technical staff
Professional Engineer (PE) – Utah (required)
Additional state PE licenses (a plus for multi-state operations)
Professional memberships such as ASCE, DFI, or Geo-Institute
