UTILITY INVENTORY SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT: Public Services

DIVISION: Water Utility

Pay Grade: GRADE 125: $47,915.30 - $69,477.18 Annual Salary ($23.04 - $33.40 Hourly Rate)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Merit, Full-Time, Eligible for Benefits


GENERAL PURPOSE

This position performs various duties in support of the Water Utility Division, including receiving, storing, issuance, and inventorying materials, supplies, tools, and equipment. It receives general supervision from the Utilities Inventory Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Receive, stock, and issue materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; verify incoming shipments for appropriate quantity and quality.
  • Inventory supplies, materials, tools, and equipment; write specifications for and replace supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain files and compile records of supply transactions.
  • Process invoices, claim vouchers, and purchase orders, ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained, requisition and purchase of various materials and supplies.
  • Operate appropriate equipment, including a forklift and office machines.
  • Pick up supplies and materials from distributors.
  • Inspect all water utility properties and ensure their upkeep.
  • Maintain the storeroom in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Act as a Water Maintenance Tech I as needed.
  • Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, paving machines, vactors, flush trucks, compressors, jackhammers, paint sprayers, sand blasters, concrete saws, sewer rodders, mowers, edgers, and blowers; maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Install street barricades and cones before street repair activities are performed, direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Review bid specifications; meet with vendors as appropriate.
  • Operate and maintain various city vehicles safely and appropriately.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees are required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Utah CDL B License within 150 days of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade IV water distribution certificate for the State of Utah within 6 months of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Forklift Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, and IS700 within one year of hire.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • One year of experience in inventory control.
  • Training is equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify.

Failure to obtain/maintain license and certificate as outlined above may result in termination from the position.

  • Skill in organizing, stocking, and issuing supplies and equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records.
  • Skill in operating appropriate equipment, including a forklift.
  • Skill in performing simple arithmetic computations.
  • Skill in working independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in performing heavy manual labor.
  • Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking or standing for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment.
  • The ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as required by the position.
  • Ability to maintain mental capacity allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
  • Ability to comply with all city policies and regulations, including safety and risk management standards.
