Description
Electrical Assembly/Design Technician (I-IV)
About the Role
We're hiring Electrical Assembly/Design Technicians (Levels I-IV) to support the design, build, and integration of reliable electrical systems for ASI's autonomous vehicle platforms. This hands-on role bridges assembly and design, from wiring harness fabrication to documentation and system integration. Technicians collaborate closely with electrical engineers, mechanical designers, and production teams to create accurate, production-ready electrical systems and documentation.
Job Duties
Level I
- Assemble and route electrical harnesses and cable assemblies following provided schematics and build documentation.
- Assist in schematic and harness updates using tools such as Altium or Zuken.
- Support component identification and kitting for builds.
- Perform wire terminations, continuity checks, and basic troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with engineering and production to resolve assembly or routing issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of wiring changes and test results.
Level II (includes Level I responsibilities +)
- Build and validate complete harnesses for vehicle subsystems and retrofits.
- Update and maintain wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and BOMs.
- Support prototype builds and integration testing on vehicle platforms.
- Create and review build packages and ensure revision control of documentation.
- Assist with harness routing and component layout in 3D CAD environments.
- Communicate cross-functionally to address fit, routing, and interference issues.
Level III (includes Level I-II responsibilities +)
- Lead the creation of electrical harness designs for new platforms.
- Perform detailed schematic capture and interconnect design using CAD tools.
- Own BOM management and ensure configuration control across revisions.
- Develop harness build standards and process documentation.
- Mentor junior technicians and perform peer reviews of assembly work.
- Support integration and validation testing in field environments.
Level IV (includes Level I-III responsibilities +)
- Serve as the subject matter expert for harness architecture and documentation best practices.
- Lead cross-team design reviews and drive standardization efforts across product lines.
- Define design and build strategies for scalability, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Oversee prototype-to-production transitions and ensure documentation completeness.
- Influence system-level design decisions in collaboration with Systems and Electrical Engineering.
- Champion continuous improvement in design, build quality, and documentation workflows.
Requirements
Level I
- 1-2 years of experience in electrical assembly, harness fabrication, or related technical field.
- Associate degree or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Basic understanding of electrical schematics, harness design, and BOM structure.
- Skilled with hand tools, crimping, soldering, and wire testing.
- Familiarity with schematic or CAD tools (e.g., Altium, Zuken, SolidWorks Electrical).
Level II
- 3-5 years of experience in electrical assembly or harness design for vehicles, robotics, or automation.
- Proficiency in wiring documentation, revision control, and 3D CAD integration.
- Strong understanding of harness design standards and routing principles.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers and production teams.
Level III
- 5-7 years of relevant hands-on experience in electrical design and documentation.
- Expertise in harness architecture, cable assembly, and connector selection.
- Experience mentoring technicians and managing multiple projects.
- Familiarity with version control systems (EPDM, Git) and structured documentation processes.
Level IV
- 7+ years of experience in electrical systems design, harness engineering, or manufacturing support.
- Proven leadership in defining and implementing electrical design standards and documentation systems.
- Deep understanding of configuration management, DFM principles, and large-scale integration.
- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and lead improvement initiatives.
